Mitchell Pearce says heading into the football mad town of Newcastle was a big attraction in his decision to join the Knights.
"I haven't spent too much time in Newcastle but from a far I've always admired how much the town gets behind the team," Pearce said.
"Even last year they were getting full crowds each year, so hopefully we can do them proud this year.
Pearce was under constant scrutiny during his time at the Roosters, so getting out the Sydney bubble was another deciding factor in joining the Knights.
"One of the big things for me was getting out of Sydney and coming up and being part of this town," Pearce added.
"I hear nothing but great things about Newcastle.
"It's a fresh change, something new and something I'm really excited for.
"The culture and rugby league town that Newcastle is, it's something I wanted to be part of."
The incumbent NSW halfback signed a four-year deal with the Knights.
