The City of Bunbury, Friends of Big Swamp and Bunbury Prison have teamed up for a revitalisation project at Bunbury’s Big Swamp wetlands.
Section 95 prisoners are involved as part of a pre-release program, working up to eight hours per day on the project.
Group member Kathryn Harbutt said the men were doing a great job at the wetlands.
“We really can’t thank them enough for all the hard work they are putting in,” Ms Harbutt said. “They bring their own equipment and have had a major impact on the revitalisation of the area.
“We have received nothing but positive feedback from local residents who are pleased this important work is being carried out.”
The City’s landscape and open space team and volunteer group Friends of Big Swamp have also been assisting with the revitalisation of the wetlands, including removing weeds and large piles of green waste.
Future revegetation of the wetlands will include local native plants.
