Hunter Man Charged Over Road Rage Incident

Police have charged the driver who punched a Newcastle woman in the face during a road rage assault at Lake Munmorah.

The 41-year-old from Windermere Park handed himself in to Wyong Police Station this morning.

The incident was caught on a dash cam on Monday afternoon at a set of the traffic lights on the Pacific Highway at Elizabeth Bay Drive.

The footage was later uploaded to Facebook and widely shared leading police to begin investigating.

The woman who was assaulted - 21 year old Bianca Lee Sams - claims the man had been tailgating the car she was in after they over took him.

She's admitted to throwing a packet of nails and a chisel at the man's ute, saying she feared for the safety of her friend and a young child they were travelling with.

The man was granted conditional bail and will front court next month.
