Live Longer, Order A 4th Coffee

Coffee lovers rejoice! Up to four cups of coffee a day is not harmful to your health, in fact it may even be beneficial, new research suggests.

A study of 20,000 Spanish residents has found an association between regular coffee consumption and a lower risk of premature death.
The European Society of Cardiology in Barcelona has found the risk of early death was cut by nearly two-thirds among those who drank four cups of coffee every day.

During the study participants answered a questionnaire on coffee consumption, lifestyle and sociodemographic characteristics, and previous health conditions.
The average age of participants was 37.7 years old. They were then followed-up for an average of 10 years since 1999.
Over a 10-year period, 337 participants died.

Those who consumed at least four cups of coffee per day had a 64 per cent lower risk of "all-cause mortality" than those who never or almost never consumed coffee.
The older the person was the greater the benefit.

It's not entirely sure why drinking more coffee could make you live longer but it could be put down to a number of reasons.
Like the fact that coffee allows you to take regular breaks from work, or that you can build better social relationships over coffee.

Drinking coffee can also be a costly daily indulgence, so perhaps if you're drinking more coffee you could be more affluent which links back to better health.

While we all love our daily brew it's important to remember to not over expose yourself to too caffeine.
But for now we'll enjoy our coffee hit and cheers to potentially living longer.
