QLD Government To Remove Racist Place Names From The Map

It has been reported that the Queensland Government is set to remove a number of racist location names from the map.

These include places such as N---r Creek and N-----s Bounce, with Fairfax Media reporting that up to 10 places contain the N-word or another similar word in their name.

"We welcome the removal of those names, since the N-word is an unmistakably racial slur, and a potent symbol of slavery, white supremacy and violence," Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Dr Abramovich said.

"It is rooted in hate, and has often been employed to dehumanise and to perpetuate demeaning stereotypes."
