Queen Biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" Scores Two Golden Globe Nominations Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic that pretty much everyone is talking about, has picked up two nominations for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards.

While the film itself has been nominated for Best Motion Picture (Drama), lead actor Rami Malek - who plays Freddie Mercury in the flick - has also scored a nod for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama), something he says is a "tremendous honour".

"It's great to be recognised this way," he told Entertainment Weekly. "It's been so many years in the process and to have it culminate in not only myself but the film being recognised is such a tremendous honour and speaks to the level of work that everyone who was a part of this film brought to it.

"It's so special. I'm in London, so I may even be able to share this with the band tonight.

"We're getting on the phone, me and Roger Taylor and Brian May and will try and figure something out because I'd like to take them out for a drink."

Malek had previously spoken about the sheer amount of research he did into both Mercury's life and performances, telling news.com.au that he had watched the Queen frontman's Live Aid performance at least 1,500 times.

"That's something we tried to get move for move, even just gesture for gesture perfectly," he said.

"Things won't exactly always match-up, there might be a hint of something that's off but I think that kept it feeling really alive and in the moment and it was better to sacrifice it that way but yeah, I was watching it non-stop."

Bohemian Rhapsody faces stiff competition from another music based movie though; A Star Is Born, featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, picked up four nods including Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Director for Cooper.
